As the 2016 cruise season comes to a close NIS, one of our members looks back and see that  we been visited by over 69,000 passengers, seven companies and 14 ships. Indeed, their  excursions have been enjoyed by almost 30,000 people.

They  opened the 2016 season on 5th April with the Azura, a P&O ship with 3,100 passengers and 900 crew, and they finished with Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas, one of the largest ships in the world with 3,300 passengers and 1,400 crew. In 2017 they  hope to operate  out of the new terminal at Getxo 3.

There have been some  anecdotes from filming a movie with passengers and local citizens to special openings at the Guggenheim Museum due to the high demand of passengers. Bilbao and the  Basque Country is becoming a popular destination for cruise passengers. They are attracted by our museums, our gastronomy, and especially our pintxos! Visitors simply cannot get enough of the stunning coast and green mountain landscapes, the fabulous wineries and vineyards, and above all, the uniqueness of the Basque people.

Finally, many professionals must be thanked for their hard work: the coach companies, professional drivers and taxi drivers; the team of local guides and activities monitors; restaurant owners and service personnel.

See you next year again!
